A leading Sunni Muslim religious teacher has been suspended by a mosque after he was arrested on suspicion of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

Mufti Ashraf Sidat, 45, from Blackburn, has been suspended from Masjide Noorul Islam, Audley Range, pending an investigation.

At 9.50am on Thursday, police were called to Roedean Gardens in Flixton to a report of child grooming.

Officers attended and a 45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

He was taken into custody for questioning and bailed until February 9, 2018, pending further enquiries.
