As if the remaining saloon bar propper-uppers at UKIP did not have enough problems with their increasing closeness to the far right, with some members determined to find a way to allow Stephen Yaxley Lennon, who styles himself Tommy Robinson, to become a member, the rather too literal interpretation of libertarianism has reared its head - and, as so often with the libertarian right, the subject has been, effectively, legitimising paedophilia.

The Kippers already had significant baggage in this area, having allowed has-been man-baby Milo Yiannopoulos to become a member. Yiannopoulos began his fall from grace when he was caught effectively defending paedophilia; from there, his book deal was lost, his invitation to speak at CPAC was rescinded, and his personal magic money tree withered and died before his eyes. Yet he was welcomed into UKIP.

Now have come two further disturbing developments, the first concerning Carl Benjamin, who goes by the alias Sargon of Akkad. Benjamin, whose libertarianism has already seen him banned by Twitter, has produced a podcast in which he chats to The Justicar. Perhaps stuck for something to talk about, the two began to talk about the age of consent, which in itself is an interesting one. Clearly world affairs are not important enough for them.
The Justicar tells “I was well under the age of 11 when I started having sex.. Please convince me that I didn't know what I was doing”, then adding “I can tell you I think one of the reasons that, erm, the adults I was screwing around with liked me was because.. their dicks looked so much bigger in my tiny little hands”. Benjamin muses “Yeah, I think.. it depends on the child really, doesn't it.. it should really be a case by case basis”.
In case you didn’t get that, one of UKIP’s new stars has no problem with the age of consent being lowered to 11. Eleven. On a case by case basis. Perhaps this is to “trigger the libs”. Perhaps, also, it is not an isolated incident.
WarPlanPurple, “An official UKIP account on the front lines of the culture war”, has posted a link to “The Thinkery Podcast”, featuring Singaporean blogger Amos Yee. Who he? Well, this is what Coconuts Singapore had to say about Yee last May.
“Yee truly believes that the age of consent should be abolished, and he remains genuinely perplexed on why believers of free speech aren’t taking his side … After months of continued questionable content published on his YouTube channel, the video-sharing platform finally gave him the boot last Saturday”. But he is not downhearted.
“He remains upbeat about losing all his YouTube subscribers that he accumulated over a couple of years, and is hopeful about continuing his pro-pedophilia activism on his Facebook page and website”. And his podcast has been featured by “An official UKIP account”. After the Kippers recruited Yiannopoulos and Carl Benjamin.
There are some, er, “features” of libertarianism that put their advocates on the wrong side of the law. And one of those features is getting very adjacent to UKIP right now.
Perhaps Adolf von Batten would like to explain that away. No pressure, now.
