The inaugural Run for Delta was a smashing success on Sunday at the North Delta Recreation Centre.
Hosted by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of B.C., close to 400 participants took part in the run/walk event.
Organizers are still tallying the final figures, but more than $35,000 was raised to help support the Delta Hospital Foundation and the Surrey Food Bank, which operates the North Delta food depot.
Race director Irfan Chaudhry said the post-race barbecue was a huge hit as was the live auction, which was led by auctioneer and Delta South MLA Ian Paton.
Delta North MLA Ravi Khalon led the race warm-up and was also a participant, while Delta MP Carla Qualtrough helped hand out the post-race medals.
Representatives from the City of Delta, Delta Police and Delta Fire were also on hand to support the event.
