Sensibly keeping a little distance between himself and his pals Stateside for a little while, former UKIP Oberscheissenfürher Nigel “Thirsty” Farage has taken the opportunity presented by Remembrance Day to promote his favourite cause, which of course is the further advancement of Himself Personally Now. This, he has decided in the past few days, might be facilitated by him supporting the UK’s war veterans.
Squeaky traitorous finger up the bum time
So after a little routine dishonesty, praising Priti Patel for lying - “Resignation by @patel4witham is very sad. She’s a good woman and a leading Brexiteer in the Cabinet” - and claiming “The elitists mocked my faith in Donald Trump, but one year on his revolution is still rolling” when the only thing rolling in Washington DC right now is the juggernaut force of Robert Mueller’s investigation, Nige got on to his own act of remembrance.
“We will remember them. Listen to veterans and their stories on @LBC this Sunday” he told his adoring followers. Some veterans and their supporters may well take him at face value. But there are rather a lot of reasons about for doing so such thing.
While Mr Thirsty plays the remembrance card for all he is worth, we should also never forget his support for the European far-right, many of whom long for the kind of leadership that got so many of our veterans’ friends and comrades in arms killed in World War 2.
Take, for instance, Farage’s UKIP leadership and its “European Parliament (EP) alliance with Robert Iwaszkiewicz, who represents the Polish Congress of the New Right (KNP) [which received] a distinctly hostile assessment from Jonathan Arkush, vice president of the Board of Deputies of British Jews (BoD)”. Nige, as I pointed out recently, has a problem with Jews. He is paranoid about them. Many Jews fought and died for Britain.
The KNP’s then leader Janusz Korwin-Mikke “made a number of less than totally politically correct assertions about race, employment, the Holocaust, and beating women, although he later claimed that the last-mentioned was some kind of joke” and “has claimed that the difference between rape and consensual sex is ‘very subtle’ and said that Adolf Hitler was ‘probably not aware that Jews were being exterminated’”.
Farage’s far-right connections also extended to speaking at an Alternative für Deutschland rally recently in Spandau, where Hitler’s deputy Rudolf Hess spent his last days. Nige’s invite came courtesy of Beatrix von Storch, “A granddaughter of Hitler’s finance minister, Lutz von Krosigk”. She shares Nige’s inability to keep that North and South shut.
Indeed, “she called on European border guards to use firearms to deter illegal immigrants, including women and children. She later described the comments as a ‘tactical mistake’”. The AfD are the true inheritors of the racist and white supremacist Nazi tradition, but this does not fuss the Kippers, who invited one of them to its conference last month.
All of which shows that Nigel Farage has some gall claiming to back acts of remembrance in the UK, given so many of his mainstream European political pals were batting for the other side. Something to her in mind when he claims to be some kind of great patriot.
Nigel Farage is loyal to one cause only. And that is Himself. No change there, then.
