A leader in the local Muslim community is speaking out to condemn the deadly New York bike path attack that killed eight people and injured more than a dozen.
Umer Shahid is the spokesperson for the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community’s Tucson chapter.
He said the community is mourning the lives lost, and he felt compelled to speak out to show that the actions of terror suspect, Sayfullo Saipov, do not represent the faith.
“Islam does not teach you to do any kind of terrorism act,” he said. “These radical Muslim organizations are using the name of Islam and it is our duty to educate people that these are not the teachings of Islam.”
