Napoli turn their attention to Aurier
Carlo Ancelotti is taking an interest in Serge Aurier |
According to Sky Sport Italia, a deal for Manchester United’s 28-year-old (29 in December) Italian international full-back Matteo Darmian is proving somewhat difficult. That has prompted Serie A side Napoli to turn to Tottenham Hotspur right-back Serge Aurier.
Aurier only joined Tottenham last summer in a deal worth around £20.45 million (€23m) from Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain. The Ivorian struggled to impose himself in his first season but is looking to push on with a pre-season and the USA tour under his belt.
It is expected that with Danny Rose and Kieran Trippier only returning to training next week that Serge Aurier and Ben Davies will start the season against Newcastle United as the full-backs or wing-backs depending upon the system used.
Having failed to bring in the likes of Youssouf Sabaly, Santiago Arias and Stefan Lainer so far, Elseid Hysaj remains Carlo Ancelotti’s only recognised right-back.
His attempts to sign Aurier are likely to be rebuffed by Spurs, even though Kyle Walker-Peters is developing nicely.
