German Terror Attack - Far-Right Silent

While the far-right has gone off the end of the pier in no style at all over a stabbing incident last night at Manchester Victoria station Metrolink stop, making all manner of creative accusations about Scary Muslims™ and banging on about migrants - without waiting to have the suspect identified - the Wall Of Gammon™ has been conspicuously silent about a series of attacks in the German city of Bottrop.

As the Guardian has reported, “A man has been arrested in Germany after driving his car into a crowd of people, injuring at least four, in what appears to have been an intentional attack directed at immigrants … Police said the 50-year-old driver of a silver Mercedes first attempted to hit a group of pedestrians in the western city of Bottrop shortly after midnight on Tuesday, but they were able to jump out of the way”. But he wasn’t finished.

The man, who was not named, then went into the city centre, where he drove into a crowd. Police said those hit by the car included Syrians and Afghans, and some were seriously injured. The driver sped off towards the nearby city of Essen, where he tried and failed to hit people waiting at a bus stop before being arrested on suspicion of attempted homicide. Authorities said the driver made anti-immigrant comments during his arrest”.

But not to worry, far-right people, “‘Investigating authorities are currently working on the assumption that this was a targeted attack, possibly motivated by the anti-foreigner views of the driver,’ police said, adding that there were indications the suspect had a mental illness”. As any fule kno, mental illness is not allowable as a factor in attackers’ behaviour if they are Scary Muslims™, but is fine if they are white.

So who has rushed to condemn this apparently targeted and racially motivated attack? How about pro-am motormouth Katie Hopkins? Nope, not a peep. Julia Hartley Dooda? No, she’s still on her VERY EXPENSIVE AND EXCLUSIVE holiday in Phuket. Battersea bedroom dweller Paul Watson? Not as such. His pal Peter Imanuelsen, the not-really-from-Sweden Norwegian who lives in Northallerton? Not a peep.
Perhaps new UKIP supremo Adolf von Batten would like to comment? Not really, he’s busy ranting about Manchester. Cloggie bigot Geert Wilders? No, nothing there. Voice of Europe? Nope, they’re Looking Over There at more Scary Muslims™ in another part of Germany. Perhaps Stephen Yaxley Lennon, who styles himself Tommy Robinson, would like to admit that there is such a thing as far-right terrorism?

No he wouldn’t. Stephen is much more concerned about slagging off media outlets whose reporting is not in accordance with his wishes. And Manchester. Well, how about Anne Marie Waters of For Britain? Nope, nothing since before Christmas. Perhaps Nigel “Thirsty” Farage, former UKIP Oberscheissenführer, has something to offer? No, he’s too busy whining about London’s fireworks. Seriously.

Anyone might conclude that this unappealing convocation of selective hatred is more interested in attacking brown people than condemning acts of terrorism, whoever perpetuates them. I’ll just leave that one there.
