Thoughts from the West Ham game

West Ham 2 SPURS 3

The weekend of football action is almost over and with one game remaining tonight that isn't going to affect our position, Spurs have moved up to 4th place in the Premier League.

Newcastle United lost 1-0 away to Brighton and Hove Albion, managed by former Spurs right-back and then coach, Chris Houghton, to drop below us in the table. Chelsea sit two points above us in third and we are five points behind the two Manchester clubs.

Harry Kane did what Harry Kane does best, notched another couple of goals to help secure our 3-2 victory away to West Ham United, the same scoreline Liverpool defeated Leicester City by at the King Power Stadium. They now sit below us on goal difference.

Davinson Sanchez is settling in at the centre of a back three and had a better game perhaps than he did in the previous encounter against Swansea City, where, although he put in a good performance, he did get beaten a bit too easily for my liking on a few occasions. He would have had an education playing against Andy Carroll for a while, particularly in the air, fortunately not all forwards are of his physical nature.

Serge Aurier looks a very good player and made some timely challenges, although he does look prone to committing a few fouls. His first booking was really for an accumulation of fouls, although that isn't in the rule book and the second was a clever piece of play by Andy Carroll.

Knowing Aurier was coming in with one of his challenges he planted his right leg between the ball and Aurier rather than plant it beside the ball. Thus Aurier has to scissor round his leg to try and play the ball. Carroll simply had to wait for contact and go down, roll a bit holding his leg and he'd have his man sent off.

It was a foul, it was a booking, but let's not pretend Andy Carroll didn't know exactly what he was doing and Aurier will have to learn from that. Kieran Trippier will now have to play against Huddersfield, after which there is a two week gap until the Bournemouth game while international fixtures take place.
