A man was attacked as he arrived at a mosque for evening prayers.
The man, was outside the Altrincham Islamic Centre, on Grove Lane, when someone approached him from behind and stabbed him in the neck.
Some worshippers were already inside the mosque when the incident happened just before 6pm on Sunday evening.
The shocking attack - which police are treating as a hate crime - comes on the night the M.E.N. launches a campaign to stamp out hatred and promote tolerance.
The We Stand Together campaign aims to teach all children how to solve problems peacefully, encourage acts of kindness and fight hate crime.
