Whether you’re a Muslim or not, we must all come together to follow the tradition of charity and sacrifice that Islam and other major religions teach.

Recently, we have all seen the devastation and heard and read of the heartbreaking stories that Hurricane Harvey has brought to Texas. As a member of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association, I want to offer my sincere condolences to all the families affected by this terrible storm.

The Holy Prophet and founder of Islam, Muhammad (peace be upon him), calls upon Muslims to be generous to their neighbors saying “Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should be generous to his neighbor...” (Malik Al-Muwatta, Volume 49, number 22).

So, in collaboration with Humanity First, members of the AMYA have made their way to Houston for the sole purpose of serving those in Texas by distributing supplies, cooking food for the displaced and volunteering at various shelters. Whether you’re a Muslim or not, we must all come together to follow the tradition of charity and sacrifice that Islam and other major religions teach.

I encourage everyone to donate even just a dollar to either Humanity First for their relief efforts being provided or any other major organization that is on the scene. If we work together, we can make all the difference.
