TOTTENHAM TALK
No sooner do I pen an article on wages and we hear that the top scorer at West Ham United Michail Antonio wants to leave the Olympic Stadium (no surprise there, he probably can't see the crowd).
The reason given is he wants parity with January signings Robert Snodgrass and José Fonte. Somehow they are on £70,000-a-week the same as Kyle Walker. It is no wonder the Spammers have had players who haven't bought into the Slaven Bilić project. When players are more interested in money than performances it is time to say goodbye to them.
Fellow Spurs website Tottenham LIVE ask should Spurs’ Mauricio Pochettino add Antonio to his summer shopping list?
The answer is, of course, a resounding NO, we are looking to go forward with younger players who have development in them, not backward with 27-year-old (28 next March) players who clearly don't have the right mental attitude for us.
By all means negotiate with a club but to threaten to leave if they don't give in to your demands shows a focus in the wrong place. You haven't heard Toby Alderweireld say he wants to leave, quite the opposite and Walker wants to stay too.
The last thing we need is players signing because of the money, been there, done that, doesn't work.
