Sanna's Frog Orchid Variety

We were back at Sanna on Friday to see how the frog orchids were coming on, and they're doing well again this year. The Diary has already reported on those flowering behind Port na Tuine - see post here - but the main group, near the beach below Sanna Bheag, are now coming out.

What is noticeable at this site is the variety in colour, from this very dark one....

....through various paler....

 ....and greener shades to....

....ones which are almost totally green - the ones that are most difficult to spot and, therefore, most likely to be trodden on.

We had been worried that the sheep, which are usually out of this field and on the common grazings at this time of year, might eat them, but this doesn't seem to be happening.
