Jean-Michaël Seri a lot of talk, nothing happening

TRANSFER TALK

Tottenham are reported to be ready to step up efforts to sign Jean-Michaël Seri whose versatility appeals to Mauricio Pochettino suggest France Football.

Jean Michaël Seri is an Ivorian international (he has 13 full international caps, scoring 1 goal) who generally plays as a central midfielder for OGC Nice in the Ligue 1. Last season he played 29 games as a central midfielder (Mousa Dembele role), 8 games as a defensive midfielder (Victor Wanyama role) and 1 as a substitute.

Transfermarkt value him at £11.9 million (€13.34m - AUS$19.64m - US$15.53m), Swansea bid
£16.95 million (€19m - AUS$27.96m - US$22.13m) say French daily newspaper L'Equipe (which presumably includes add-ons), while Roma refused to pay his £35.7 million (€40m - AUS$58.86m - US$46.59m).

It should be remembered that a release clause is not a transfer value, it is an inflated figure clubs put in contracts to prevent players moving, making them too expensive for other clubs to buy. That is their sole purpose and certainly is Spanish contracts, it is the player who has to pay the release fee, often plus taxes, to get out of his contract. Naturally, although you are not supposed to, clubs find a way of reimbursing the player they want to purchase, they don't usually have to pay the release fee as a transfer fee themselves.

Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Everton, PSG, AC Milan, Inter Milan and Arsenal have all been credited with an interest as have Spanish giants Barcelona, although that was more he saying he wouldn't turn them down. Arsenal are claimed to be very interested and even favourites in some quarters, but they haven't even made a bid yet.
