Khwaja Ahmad Hussain Derwaish passed away at his home in Qadian. He was 92 years old.
Funeral prayers, offered at Bahishti Maqbra, were led by Ahmadiyya Chief Secretary, India, Maulana Mohammad Inam Ghori. After the grave was closed, Maulana Mohammad Inaam Ghori led all present in silent prayer.
Khwaja Ahmad Hussain had settled in Qadian as a volunteer nearly seven decades ago at the call of the then Caliph of Islam-Ahmadiyya, Hazrat Mirza Bashir Ud Din Mahmood Ahmad, for the protections of Qadian holy sites.
While the leadership and a majority of the Ahmadiyya community of Qadian had to migrate to Pakistan at the time of Indo-Pak partition in 1947, the volunteers who stayed back at the directions of their spiritual leader- 313 in number - came to be revered as a special group of elders of the community and they were affectionately called Derwaish, a tile that signified their sense of selflessness.
