Perspective: Distressing to see hate crimes against Muslims continue | Attiya Ghani

I wonder why some people put spotlight on differences as it only leads to destruction. In my opinion, the major problem is that people are unaware of the beautiful teachings of the Holy book of Qur’an.

The fatal stabbing of two men in Northeast Portland by a man shouting racial slurs against Muslims Friday evening was met with sorrow by the Ahmadiyya Muslim community, who were ready to welcome the holy month of love and harmony- Ramadan.

The suspect was yelling "hate speech or biased language" at two young women, one of whom was wearing a hijab. Three men attempted to intervene and they were stabbed by the suspect. Two of them died.

The incident brought intense emotion of pain and grief to all of us as the two gentlemen -- good Samaritans in every sense of the word -- ended up losing their lives. Our hearts go out to the families of these individuals.

It is distressing to see hate crimes against Muslims continue.  I wonder why some people put spotlight on differences as it only leads to destruction. In my opinion, the major problem is that people are unaware of the beautiful teachings of the Holy book of Qur’an. By following the true teachings of Qur’an, we can become humans who share the universal bond of peace and love.
