Conflicting reports on Keita Baldé

TRANSFER TALK

French side Monaco have reached a deal to sign Lazio striker 22-year-old (23 next March) Keita Baldé, according to Sky Sport Italia. I didn't think he would be coming to Spurs as you know.

That is double the fee Juventus were prepared to pay for him and in the face of at least four offers double the Italia champions bid, there is no way Lazio were going to lower their price much. In fact, they didn't have to as the French champions are going to pay a reported £27.89 million (€30m - AUS$45.32m - US$36.13m).

Lazio sporting director Igli Tare has been insisting on their price being met, as he conformed to the media recently.

"Not only Monaco are interested -- there are other clubs after him, too -- but they are a long way off meeting our demands.
"He has a contract until 2018 with Lazio, and we are insisting on [the right fee] because he was brought up here and it's only right that the price reflects what he is worth.
"I don't know, in the end, if he will remain with us -- it's hard to give an answer right now. We'll see what happens between now and Aug. 31."

That seems to contradict what Sky are trying to tell us so we'll have to wait and see. I thought he would end up at Juventus, the club he wanted to go for, but their position was weakened by so many clubs being interested in him, including ourselves and the price they were all prepared to pay.

One wonders what his wage will be in the tax haven of Monaco where he will play in front of around 20,000 each week. many player have jumped ship after a season and of late, Monaco have been making big profits on transfers, which didn't stop them winning the league last season.
