TRANSFER TALK
Tottenham target Jean-Michaël Seri wanted to join Barcelona and looked set to join the Spanish club. he has a release fee of £36.98 million (€40m - AUS60.29m - US$47.73m) which ran out in July. OGC Nice President Jean Pierre Rivère, it is reported in France, always wanted £46.23 million (€50m - AUS75.36m - US$59.66m) for him.
Barcelona offered £23.11 million (€25m - AUS37.68m - US$29.873m) plus £9.25 million (€10m - AUS15.07m - US$11.93m) in add-ons. The anti-Levy haters of course try to tell us that it is only Daniel Levy who conducts transfer in this way, when in fact every club do the same. That bid was rejected.
Barcelona apparently told Nice that they would be coming back with an offer of £27.74 million (€30m - AUS45.22m - US$35.79m) plus £9.25 million in add-ons, but they never did and it seems Rivère isn't very pleased with their conduct. According to SFR Sport he phoned his Barcelona counterpart Josep Maria Bartomeu to tell him personally.
"I will express myself very strongly after the window. He is extremely disappointed by the situation and rightly so."
Just like Real Madrid was Gareth Bale's dream, so Barcelona is Seri's dream and explains why we never really had a chance of signing him. he is still waiting to see if Barcelona come back with a better offer and his president believes he can't concentrate on his football at the moment.
He was poor against Napoli in the UEFA Champions League qualifying play-off round when they really needed him and has been left out of the Nice squad to play Amiens, with his president saying he is heart broken by the way Barcelona have acted and his football is clearly affected by it.
Rivère, it seems, feels the Spanish are partly to blame for Nice not putting up a better figght to qualify for the UEFA Champions League competition proper.
Does that give Daniel Levy the opportunity to make a late move for Seri on transfer deadline day?
