TRANSFER TALK
So Vincent Janssen is unhappy with his current situation at Spurs with a World Cup in Russia next summer and striker berths up for grabs in the Dutch squad. Currently Holland sit third in Group A behind leaders Sweden, who have 13 points, second placed France, who also have 13 points and the Holland on 10 points, all from 6 of the 10 qualifying group games.
It is hardly surprising he is unhappy, he hardly plays. Pochettino doesn't seem to trust him and Janssen hasn't done what he is paid to do, score goals. he seems to spend too much time with his back to goal when playing the lone striker role, while Harry Kane seems to spend more time facing the goal.
I remarked in a previous article about trust and confidence. Youri Tielemans, now at 20-year-old (21 next May) commented on why he was having a much better season last season than the one before at Anderlecht, he has since joined French champions Monaco. he said that his team mates trusted him more and therefore passed to him more and that gave him more confidence.
That certainly seems to be an issue with Janssen. You can see him flap his arms when a ball isn't played across the box into his path. There have been plenty of occasions when it should have been. He is young and his confidence must have suffered, just as the older Roberto Soldado's did.
We bought him young hoping he could adapt his game to ours, given his goalscoring ability, as yet that doesn't seem to have been sufficiently the case. Of course, we have hardly seen him this season and thta in itself tells a story.
For him to leave though a player must come in and there isn't much time left.
