TRANSFER TALK
Tottenham are reported to be interested in 19-year-old (20 next July) Ivorian-born winger Yann Karamoh, who plays in Ligue 1 for Caen and is under contract until 2019.
French side Caen value him at £9 million (€9.73m - AUS$14.67m - US$11.61m), while clubs have offered just £3.8 million (€4.11m - AUS$6.19m - US$4.9m) for him the daily Mirror tell us. Transfermarkt value him at £2.7 million (€2.92m - AUS$4.4m - US$3.48m).
They go on to say. Fiorentina and Inter Milan (who else) are following him. caen finished 17th last season and beat Metz 1-0 at the Stade Michel d'Ornano, Caen, Normandie yesterday.
He has talent, but is very raw and is far too lightweight for the Premier League so he would be another for the future and not a player who could impact the first team right now. Last season was his first, he played 35 Ligue 1 games, scoring 5 goals and had 4 assists. His game time equated to 24 78 full games.
Steve Hitchen is our chief scout with, we are told, an encyclopedic knowledge of French football and it may well be that we see value in transfer of French players as opposed to those from sat Germany. We have bought two fast French wingers and neither have made a mark at Spurs thus far.
We, of course, need to be keeping a lookout for future players to add to our conveyor belt alongside looking for purchases who can make a difference now.
You don't do one, then the other as some fans seem to allude to when complaining that we shouldn't be trying to buy players for the future. As a club we can do two things at once!
