Muslim leaders must be extremely careful in not using their platform for hate speech, especially because of the negative effects this has on youth who are not familiar with Islam's true teachings.

This past weekend, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association of America (AMYA), which consists of nearly 70 chapters across the nation, held its annual youth retreat in Los Angeles, where they participated in educational and sports competitions.

It is noteworthy that this peaceful gathering of hundreds of Muslims took place not far from Riverside and Davis, where Imams in both cities in the past few weeks made inflammatory remarks about Jews in their sermons because of current events in Israel.

As a member of AMYA USA, I condemn this language as antithetical to the Islamic teachings of interfaith harmony. Muslims should follow the example of the Prophet Muhammad, who made alliances of mutual protection with Jewish tribes of his time.
