Part of the grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund which the Ardnamurchan History & Heritage Association obtained was to encourage young people's interest in their local heritage, so AHHA was able to fund a trip to
Camas nan Geall, which took place today with teachers Frances Sinclair, left, and Alison Munro, right.
As well as exploring the
neolithic cairn, the children saw the
bronze age standing stone and Campbell graveyard, the ruins of the clachan houses, the remains of buildings dating from the post-Clearance sheep farm, and possible evidence that the Vikings settled in the bay.
This is the third event arranged for the school by AHHA, the first being to St Comghan's church and the second to Mingary Castle. Once again, the children were a great credit to their school and we do hope that, through these events, they have a better sense of the rich history of this area.
