“Milpitas’ strength is cultural diversity and the event brought out folks from all walks of life.”

During the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Silicon Valley’s annual Ramadan celebration on Saturday at Baitul Baseer Mosque, 926 Evans Road, leaders representing the Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, Hindu, Sikh, Jain and Muslim communities were among 350 community members who joined in opening the fast at sunset, according to organizers.

Representatives from the different faith groups also shared their thoughts about “creating a stronger bond with God and increasing spirituality,” organizers said.

In the lunar month of Ramadan, Muslims around the world abstain from food and drink from before sunrise to after sunset and increase focus on worship, charity and human welfare. This is all in an effort to strengthen their relationship with God.
