Once again, the world has seen a tragic and most condemnable terror attack take place, be it in the West, or the East.

Indiscriminate killings are never justified. At the heart of such incidents lies hate and hostility. It then becomes all the more necessary to spread peace, unity and justice.

Unfortunately, when the perpetrators - such as that of the Barcelona attack - belong to a certain group, there are some who seek to divide and discriminate, furthering hatred. In this heartbreaking instance, the culprits claimed to be Muslims. Instead of following the principles on which these terrorists rest, we should educate and advance the cause of harmony.

I find the words of His Holiness Mirza Masroor Ahmad, Caliph of the worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim community, especially alleviating in this matter: "We should seek mutual understanding, respect the beliefs of others and try to find common ground" in light of the Quranic teaching of "Come to a word equal between us and you" (Koran 3:65).
